Biography

The Health Wagon is a nonprofit organization founded in 1980 that provides mobile health services to the medically underserved in Southwest Virginia. Annually, the Health Wagon has more than 9,000 patient encounters for which patients receive comprehensive primary and preventive healthcare services. In 2000, Health Wagon partnered with the Remote Area Medical (RAM) Volunteer Corps to stage a three-day, mega clinic at the Wise County, Virginia, fairgrounds. The event, now held annually for the past 18 years, draws thousands of people and has become the largest healthcare outreach clinic in the nation. The Health Wagon has garnered notable recognition that includes 60 Minutes, Nightline, CBS Nightly News, Inside Edition, Washington Post, Time Magazine and New York Times along with extensive international attention. The Health Wagon is committed to providing access to health care to the poor and marginalized in the Appalachian region.
