Biography

Dr. Jared Skillings is a Senior Healthcare and Association Executive with a strong legacy of impact in both fast-paced and deliberative organizational cultures. He currently serves as the Chief of Professional Practice for the American Psychological Association and leads psychology’s 110,000-person workforce. In this role he guides national strategies to improve population health and to increase equity and access of psychological services.

 

Dr. Skillings oversees national efforts to promote the practice of psychologists; improve reimbursement for mental health care; develop best practices and guidelines; advance mental health regulations and policy; and advance telehealth and innovation. He is a visionary leader, courageous advocate, and he is recognized as someone with a heart for underserved communities and the ability to influence public perceptions.

 

Dr. Skillings is a licensed psychologist and is triple board-certified by the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP). As an advisor to the White House and Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), he has contributed to solving some of society’s most pressing needs. He is known for applying data, process improvement methods, and interpersonal savvy to resolve complex issues. He has amassed over 2 Billion media impressions through interviews with the NY Times, CNN, FOX, USA Today, and many others.

 

Dr. Skillings’ career includes senior leadership in Pine Rest Professional Practice Group, the largest independent mental health practice in the U.S.  Before joining APA, he served as Chief of Behavioral Health for Spectrum Health System in Grand Rapids, Michigan, a $6.5 billion enterprise with 14 hospitals.

 

On a personal note, he has been married to his wonderful wife, Julie, for 22 years.  They have five adopted children (ages 10-15), who are the joy of their life.
