Biography

For over 25 years, Margarida Jorge has led political and issue advocacy campaigns at the local, state and federal level on a wide variety of issues. She currently serves in two national leadership roles as Executive Director of Health Care for America Now (HCAN), the landmark 47-state campaign to pass, implement and defend the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and as Campaign Director of Lower Drug Prices Now (LDPN), a coalition effort to make medicines affordable in the 117th Congress. Both efforts focus on uniting key constituencies across the states to influence federal policy change in Congress.

 

Margarida is a well-known strategist, organizer, coalition builder who has held many senior roles across many issue areas including as current co-chair of Americans for Tax Fairness (ATF), Executive Director of the Women’s Equality Center (WEC), National Director of SEIU’s Americans for Health Care Campaign and Senior Advisor to the Clean Slate Initiative (CSI). She has served as a strategic consultant and advisor to many organizations that integrate state and federal advocacy, politics and organizing including Florida Rights Restoration Coalition (FRRC), Working America,  Faith in Action, Main Street Alliance, Family Values@Work, Early Leading and Childcare Hub, Ms. Foundation for Women, Vision First, National Partnership for Women and Children and others.

 

Before coming to DC, Margarida spent 15 years as a grassroots organizer building labor unions, passing legislation, developing community organizations and electing candidates in the states. She currently lives in Washington, DC.
